Land Rover

The aluminium body on a strong chassis and a fantastic 4x4 system means that the basic idea is used today. Today you can buy a Land Rover Defender which is a direct descendent of the first Land Rover. The majority are fitted with a Tdi engine or a V8 petrol. The Land Rover Defender is available as a 3 door (7 seat) or 5 door (12 seat). Pick ups, Vans and specialist rescue vehicles are also available.
In the 1970's Land Rover introduced the Range Rover, initially as a more refined vehicle. It's off road capabilities were immediately apparent and the Range Rover became an instant hit. Initially a three door model and not without mechanical problems, the Range Rover became a wanted vehicle worldwide. Over the years the Range Rover became more and more refined and upmarket and no less desirable. However it's off road capabilities have never been in question. The current Range Rover (third generation) is extremely luxurious, packed with technological wizardry and again still one of the best off roaders. The Range Rover brand is still world famous and the vehicles still desirable.
In the 1990's Land Rover introduced the Discovery. Based on the Defender mechanics the Discovery was initially a hotch potch of parts but has developed into a highly sophisticated 4x4 vehicle that is extremely capable off the road. They have 5 doors and can have 7 seats.New models are relatively expensive but a second hand Land Rover Discovery is also valuable.
To fill the gap in their model line up Land Rover introduced the Freelander which is the smallest sized Land Rover. A five door model with 1.8, 2.0, 2.5 and diesel engines the Land Rover is very popular and desirable, although it is more of an on road 4x4.
Mercedes M Class
With five doors big diesel or petrol engines the Mercedes Benz M Class is a big 4x4 vehicle. With good build quality and luxury appointments the Mercedes Benz M Class is sought after, both new and used. However they are more likely to be found at the golf club, rather than the farmyard.
Mercedes, until recently, also made the G Wagen, which was more of a robust offroad 4x4 vehicle.
Mitsubishi Shogun
Since its launch the Mitsubishi Shogun has been synonymous as a rugged well built 4x4 vehicle that as well as having style has great off-road capabilities. Three or five doors the Mitsubishi is as desirable today as it was in the 1990's
